MEAS Undergraduate Updates
AEE 230 Introduction to Cooperative Extension and AEE 325 Planning and Delivering Nonformal Education are important for preparing undergraduates to succeed in careers with the Cooperative Extension System, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. These courses are integral to the Extension Education Minor (11EXTEDM) (open to all majors) and prepare students for the NC State Extension Summer Internship Program. Seats are available in both courses!
  • AEE 230 Introduction to Cooperative Extension 
    • Course content includes the Cooperative Extension mission, philosophy, history, organization, structure, administration, program areas, program development, teaching and delivery methods, and the involvement and use of volunteers.
    • Students conduct in-depth interviews with Extension Agents to learn about their roles and responsibilities.
    • Class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 2:45 pm at 371 111 Lampe Drive.
  • AEE 325 Planning and Delivering Nonformal Education
    • Course content includes adult learning theory and practice, planning nonformal educational programs, methods of instructional delivery, technology, marketing, and program evaluation.
    • Students engage in nonformal education programs as they create their own program plan and evaluation.
    • Dr. Carolyn Bird and Joseph Donaldson collaborated to add a financial management simulation to this course. Evaluation demonstrated that this simulation improved financial knowledge and behaviors while helping students plan to use simulations for learning.
    • Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:55 to 3:45 pm at 105 Ricks Hall.
