MEAS Undergraduate Updates

The USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center is seeking a Hydrologist (GS-9 or GS-11) to join our team in Norcross, GA (Atlanta area). Qualified candidates will have experience with field data collection, data analysis, and presenting science to a variety of stakeholders. Strong writing and statistical skills are also required. We have a growing portfolio of projects with federal, state, and local partners, and a team of talented scientists.

Here are a few tips so you don’t inadvertently disqualify yourself:

  • IMPORTANT: Since this is a professional series position, there is a basic education requirement. This means that if you don’t have the required coursework, you will be disqualified from further consideration:
    Successful completion of a bachelor’s or higher degree in physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
  • You must submit unofficial transcripts from all schools where you completed the coursework required for this position. The transcripts are needed to confirm that you have completed the required coursework for the basic education requirement.
  • Resumes should include a month and year, along with your relevant work experience underneath each period of employment.  Your resume should contain enough details about your work experience for us to determine whether you have the specialized experience or not.  If you have current or prior federal service, please list the grade levels in your resume.
