MEAS Undergraduate Updates

We’re excited to resume our weekly seminar series! This week’s seminar will be held virtually, with an in-person watch party in Jordan Hall, Room 1132. Join us a little early to enjoy snacks and refreshments before the seminar starts.

Speaker: Peter Harrington, NVIDIA
Topic: NVIDIA Earth-2Studio and PhysicsNeMo for Weather & Climate AI Use Cases
Date: Friday, October 23
Time: 3:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. PT)
Location: Virtual via Zoom, with an in-person watch party in Jordan Hall, Room 1132

Abstract:

NVIDIA Earth-2 is a comprehensive family of open models, libraries, and frameworks for GPU-accelerated AI weather and climate modeling, spanning applications from kilometer-scale nowcasting to multi-century climate simulations. This talk will introduce PhysicsNeMo and Earth2Studio, the open-source packages that provide key training and inference capabilities within Earth-2. Special attention will be given to generative diffusion models for kilometer-scale downscaling, nowcasting, and forecasting, including CorrDiff, StormCast, and StormScope. The presentation will explore how these models capture fine-scale regional weather patterns and how PhysicsNeMo can be used to train custom generative diffusion models, alongside running inference through Earth2Studio.
