MEAS Undergraduate Updates

You are invited to apply to the NC State Extension Summer Internship Program, an experience that will prepare you for a challenging and rewarding career! Internships are available for summer 2026 in your local community!

Interns will assist Extension Agents through programs such as Master Gardeners, crop protection, diabetes cooking classes, and 4-H livestock projects. Extension internships offer a first-hand view of Extension careers. For these internships, we are seeking students whose academic background is relevant to Extension, especially: adult education, agricultural and Extension education; agricultural and resource economics; animal science; applied ecology; biological and agricultural engineering; communication; crop and soil sciences; education; entomology and plant pathology; family and consumer sciences; food, bioprocessing and nutrition sciences; horticultural science; plant and microbial biology; poultry science; public administration; youth development; and others. In 2026, 48 internships are available across North Carolina.

  • Northeast: Chowan, Currituck, Edgecombe, Halifax, Hyde, Martin, Pitt, Tyrrell, and Washington
  • Southeast: Bladen, Craven, Duplin, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, New Hanover, Sampson, and Wilson
  • South Central: Cabarrus, Catawba, Cumberland, Harnett, Iredell, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Rowan, Union, and Stanly (Additionally, one internship is available at the Plants for Human Health Institute in Kannapolis.)
  • North Central: Alamance, Chatham, Davie, Granville, Guilford, Orange, Randolph, Surrey, and Vance
  • West: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Jackson, Madison, Rutherford, Transylvania, and Watauga

Interns are compensated $6,400 gross pay ($16 per hour, 40 hours per week, 10 weeks). Learn more about each specific internship and county by checking out our Internship Locations page.   • A resume that includes their major and current GPA
  • Contact information for two references
  • Latest college or university transcript (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
  • A list of up to three specific county locations to which the applicant is applying
