MEAS Undergraduate Updates

The UNC System Presidential Scholar Program is a unique opportunity for recent graduates to gain first-hand experience in public higher education leadership and administration. Over the course of eleven months, Presidential Scholars work closely with staff at the UNC System Office, rotating through key departments to support day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.

This full-time, paid fellowship is designed for early-career professionals who are eager to explore how a world-renowned higher education system functions – from policy development, legal affairs, and finance to communications and student affairs.

What to Expect

As a Presidential Scholar, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals and contribute to a wide range of functions within the UNC System Office. You will:

  • Rotate through key departments to build a broad understanding of the System’s work
  • Attend board meetings, campus visits, and events
  • Support committees, departments, and special projects with research and logistics
  • Strengthen professional skills in communication, analysis, and collaboration

This program offers a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of a complex public system, providing valuable experience that can support a wide range of future paths, including graduate school, public service, or careers in policy, education, or administration.

Who Should Apply

We’re seeking candidates who will graduate in December 2025 or May 2026 from undergraduate programs at any UNC System institution. We encourage applications from individuals who are:
