Eruption after eruption, volcanoes constantly redefine the surface of our planet. In this talk, we will focus on one especially lively location example: the Reykjanes peninsula (Iceland). Over the past four years, this long-tranquil, moss-covered region has seen over 10 volcanic eruptions completely overhaul its landscape, bringing about both opportunities and challenges. Join us for a highly visual account of what the new Earth being born looks like! We will discuss how we can use virtual reality to bring the field to the classroom to learn about volcanic processes, practice field safety, and more. We will use 180° imagery throughout the talk, and VR goggles will be available to experience the 2023 eruption in 360° and 3D afterwards.
