Funding Opportunities
OUR Project Supply GrantsThese grants can be used to purchase supplies needed for undergraduate research projects.  Applications for spring awards are now open.

All undergraduates conducting research are eligible to apply, but must first attend a Project Supply Grant Help Session.  These workshops cover what you need to know to craft a competitive proposal.

Students can request up to $500.

Returning applicants (and mentors), please note that our application system is changing to better streamline the processing of awards.

George Barthalmus Undergraduate Research Awards

Be recognized across the entire state of North Carolina for your research!

The George Barthalmus Undergraduate Research Awards promote early involvement in the research process through support of sophomores in a research project of their design. Students from all disciplines are invited to apply.

Students can request up to $500.

These awards are separate from OUR-funded programs.  Eligible students may apply to both!

State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium

December 4-17, 2024-Virtual

Colleges, universities, and community colleges in North Carolina host a symposium each year to showcase N.C. undergraduate student research and creative work. SNCURCS (pronounced as ‘snickers’) provides undergraduate scholars in all fields a forum to share the results of their work through posters, presentations, performances, and works of art.

The OUR will cover registration fees for NC State students who participate.  Please fill out our SNCURCS 2025 Interest Form to be included in registration payment planning.

National Conference on Undergraduate Research

April 7-9, 2024-Pittsburgh, PA

NCUR is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity in all fields of study. This conference offers a unique environment for the celebration and promotion of undergraduate student achievement; provides models of exemplary research, scholarship, and creative activity; and offers student career readiness.

The OUR will cover registration fees, poster printing, and arrange travel to/from NCUR for selected NC State presenters. Please fill our NCUR OUR Travel Award Application for consideration.

OUR-hosted Workshops

These workshops are open to all students (no research requirement) and cover a range of topics to help round out your academic training and help you be more competitive with future applications (jobs, scholarships, internships, etc.).

Upcoming Topics Include: Research Communication 101; Maximizing Use of the Libraries; Writing Tools for Researchers; and Applying to Graduate School and Fellowships.

Fall 2024 Spooky Research Slam

Join us as 6 students from across the campus share their spooky research projects!  We’ve got everything from funeral practices, creepy crawlies living near and on us, diseases, psychic powers, and even haunted equipment.

But don’t be too afraid to show up!  We’ll also ease your research-related fears so you can join in the spooky fun too!
