Job Announcement – Undergraduate Research Assistant in Environment Analytics
The Environment Analytics research group (environmentanalytics.com) is looking to hire one or two undergraduate research assistants to work on projects in forecast model verification, winter weather, and cloud and precipitation processes. Projects involve the processing and analysis of several types of weather observation data sets from ground-based, airborne, and satellite sensors as well as forecast model output from global and regional models. Research methods include cloud-computing, databases, and machine learning. Students will receive training in programming and scientific communication and have opportunities to present their findings at symposia. Work is funded by the Office of Naval Research and NASA. Research will be supervised by Dr. Sandra Yuter and Dr. Matthew Miller.
Requirements: Science, technology, engineering or math major of at least sophomore standing with a G.P.A. >3.4
When: Positions start in December 2024 or Spring semester 2025.
Pay: Starting pay will be ≥$11/hour depending on experience.
Hours: average of 10 hours per week during the academic semester and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
Requirements:
● Programming ability and experience with Matlab and/or Python
● Interest in learning fundamentals of meteorology
● Ability to work independently, think critically, and contribute new ideas to the
project
How to Apply: Interested students should prepare the following 3 documents for their application: 1) résumé, 2) unofficial transcript, and 3) a flowchart or pseudocode to generate recommendations on housing for a rising sophomore. To keep this simple, have a total of 4 possible outcomes based on inputs of cost, proximity to campus, and whether the bedroom is shared with a roommate.
