NC State
MEAS Undergraduate Updates

For students in need of their HES GEP credits, HES is offering a wide variety of asynchronous online summer 1 and 2 courses and a select few F2F offerings. Students (particularly graduating seniors) preferring an online course option should look at the summer session offerings as we will not be able to offer as many online options in Fall 2024 as we have in the past few semesters.

In addition, in Fall we will be offering two new HES GEP courses listed below. Of note, HESF 115 provides the two HES GEP credit hours in the one course and is ideal for incoming freshman/sophomores.

HESF 114: Functional Training and Proprioceptive Awareness

This course is designed to teach and apply the principles of lifetime physical fitness, utilizing the five major components of cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. A variety of health and wellness issues will be addressed. The components of fitness will be met through structured workouts consisting of low impact cardio, full body strength training, and exercises to develop proprioceptive awareness.

HESF 115: Wellness and Resilience

Resilience is the ability to adapt to difficult or challenging life experiences through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility and adjustment to external and internal demands. Lectures, readings, discussion, and experiential learning exercises will be used to assist students in developing a personalized set of strategies and skills to optimize academic and social experiences while at NC State University and beyond. This course is also designed to teach and apply the principles of lifetime physical fitness utilizing the five major components of cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.
