Invertebrate Paleontology is scheduled as MEA 493-004 this fall . This course is a broad overview of major invertebrate fossil groups and highlights how these fossils can be used to study ecology and evolution in the past. Prerequisites are either MEAS 202 (historical geology) or BIO 181 (intro bio). This course should have broad appeal to students interested in geology, marine sciences, and/or the biological sciences.
Instructor: Dr. Curtis Congreve
Lecture MW 10:40-11:30am
Lab F 10:40am-12:30pm
Description: Most of our fossil record consists of shelled animals without a backbone. These fossils provide a wealth of information about the history of life on Earth. This course will introduce you to the major invertebrate fossil groups, as well as demonstrate how scientists use these fossils to study evolution, ecology, and environmental change in deep-time.
The course has just been approved for addition to the undergraduate catalog and will transition to MEA 370 later in the year.
