In whatever field you are pursuing, please consider minoring to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL16). Many members of the Wolfpack enjoy taking a year or more to explore the world and teach abroad before settling into a full-time position after graduation and others end up settling abroad for longer.
Five classes, one of which includes a hands-on teaching practicum, are needed to become a well prepared multilingual specialist.
The courses offered this coming fall are:
FL 427-001 Methods and Materials in Teaching English as a Second Language
FL 436-601 Perspectives on English as a New Language
FL 440-601 Practicum in TESOL (This course has expanded to include all majors and is to be taken as the culminating course in the sequence.)
There are many suggested placement sites which cover the globe. Alumni of our TESOL programs have reported their experiences abroad through our Exploring Teaching English Abroad interactive lecture series held each semester. Feel free to access the recorded video links here.
