The NWS Atlanta/Peachtree City student volunteer applications for Summer 2024 are open. In this program, you’ll get to experience numerous opportunities, including:
- Weekly talks to learn from NWS forecasters about the forecast process and unique forecasting challenges within the NWS, such as aviation, fire, severe weather, hydrology, and other hazards.
- Directly shadowing forecasters to learn about duties and tasks within the NWS.
- Launching weather balloons that will provide direct input into numerical weather models and the local forecast process.
- Working on a semester-long project that will have a direct impact on local NWS operations.
- Receiving direct help with how to apply to the NWS, including a resume building workshop.
- And many other things!
We encourage anyone interested in learning about the NWS or potentially exploring an NWS career to apply. This is unfortunately not a paid internship so being based in Georgia over the summer is ideal. Applications will close on March 15th. Please visit our Education and Community Outreach page and click on the “Student Opportunities” tab to get more information including how to apply. Because we are a federal facility, you will be required to submit to a background check and must be a US citizen to participate in the program. If you have any questions, please send an email to sr-ffc.webmaster@noaa.gov and specify that you are contacting us about the Student Volunteer Program.
