MEAS Undergraduate Updates

For the past three years UNCG has partnered with the NC Wildlife Federation and the Plastic Ocean Project to host an Ocean Advocacy Workshop for students, professionals, and other members of the general public at Haw River State Park, located just north of Greensboro.  We are hoping you might be able to help us interest some NC State students and/or faculty in attending the 2024 OAW on March 22-23. It is an incredible opportunity, available at a very low price due to support from UNC Green Fund and the NC Wildlife Federation.

We have raised money for the event so that we need only charge students and faculty $40 for one night’s lodging, all meals, and all registration fees, which actually costs about $185 per person. The event was inspired by former faculty members and wildlife activists with decades of experience in environmental issues who were inspired by and seek to inspire others. Many students and community members just seemed to need direction. Each participant who attends the whole conference will earn a Certificate of Completion that can be included on their resumes.

Participants will meet environmental organizers, researchers, and conservationists, engage in discussions, listen to TED-like talks, and participate in hands-on breakout sessions.  Speakers eat with the attendees and engage around a bonfire. There also will be a poster-making session for participants that will be student friendly.  This can also go on their resume.
