MEAS Undergraduate Updates
  • (new) OUR Travel Awards are back! If you’re accepted to present at a conference, you can apply for funding support. Travel Awards are for students only, and students are encouraged to connect with additional funding sources on campus.
  • (new) FWS Research Assistant applications will open for Spring 2024 on December 4. Students can apply with or without a mentor in mind, and positions will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. If you are a current FWS RA with a yearlong appointment, you do not need to reapply.
  • (new) OUR Research Assistant applications for Spring 2024 will be open from December 11-December18. Students must apply during this timeframe and will be notified no later than early January.
  • The ACC Meeting of the Minds conference will take place April 5-7 at Notre Dame. Read more about the Meeting of the Minds and about applying on the OUR MotM page. All application materials are due January 22, 2024 by 11:59pm.
  • The OUR is seeking student researchers who are interested in sharing their research experience with the NCSU community. If you are interested in being interviewed by the OUR to be featured as a “Student Story” on our website, please reach out to us at undergraduate-research@ncsu.edu.
  • Reminder: If you’re submitting applications to graduate schools, employers, or other opportunities, do not write down the OUR as your supervisor. We will not be able to speak to your abilities/knowledge; write down your mentor.
  • 2024 NC State Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) have been posted. The list is subject to updates (check back!). Find non-NC State REUs on the NSF REU Database and Pathways to Science Database. For faculty/staff looking to “register” their program with the OUR, please email ceshowal@ncsu.edu.

  • (new) The USGS Climate Adaptation Scientists of Tomorrow Program invites applications through December 31 for the summer 2024/2025 program.
  • (new) Gallaudet University seeks applications for the Accessible and Inclusive Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (AIBIDS) summer research program. Applications are due by April 1, 2024.
  • (updated/new) Arcadia Abroad provides research abroad opportunities. View current 2024 research abroad projects and read more on the Arcadia Abroad STEM site. Application review begins in January! Check out Intern Philly as well for business, humanities, law, art, and more opportunities.
  • The Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies is offering an undergraduate summer internship opportunity in Summer 2024. Engage with the humanities and public history. Apply by February 15, 2024
  • AmeriCorps Opportunity developed by the Coastal Resilience and Sustainability Initiative and the KIETS Climate Leaders Program in partnership with Conservation Corps North Carolina for Summer 2024. More information via this AmeriCorps opportunity flyer.
  • Dept. of Energy Summer 2024 Undergraduate Internships applications are being accepted through January 9, 2024. Access information and register for a panel workshop to learn more about these science and technology opportunities (DOE SULI information).
Opportunities to Present
  • (new) The Stanford Research Conference will take place April 5-7, 2024. The deadline to submit to the SRC is January 15.
  • (deadline soon)The Richard Macksey National Undergraduate Humanities Research Symposium will take place at Johns Hopkins University March 21-23. Abstract submissions are due by December 8.
  • (deadline soon) The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR 2024) will occur in April 2024 and will be hosted by California State University – Long Beach. Applications are due December 8! Please inform the OUR if you are applying.
  • The Council on Undergraduate Research’s Trimmer fund Award is for arts and humanities students to receive funding to present research at professional meetings (conferences, etc.). Funds of up to $1,000 are for events between January 1, 2024-December 31, 2024. Applications are due January 15, 2024.
  • The NC State Make-A-Thon will be held January 26-28. Register by January 18. This opportunity includes “collaborating in cross-disciplinary teams to research, design, and prototype solutions to a sustainability challenge.”
