OUR Events and Reminders

  • (new) Final opportunity to attend a Project Supply Grant Proposal Help Session for Spring 2024 proposals – November 8, 8:00-9:00am via Zoom. Students must attend a Help Session to have their proposal read.
  • (new) 2024 NC State Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) have been posted. The list is subject to updates (check back!). Find non-NC State REUs on the NSF REU Database and Pathways to Science Database. For faculty/staff looking to “register” their program with the OUR, please email ceshowal@ncsu.edu.
  • Spring 2024 OUR Project Supply Grant (formerly Research Award) proposals are due November 15 at 11:59pm. Students in all disciplines are welcome. Applicants must attend an Award Help Session in order to be eligible.
  • Want additional help creating a poster before you join the OUR to practice presenting on November 6 or 9? The University Libraries is hosting a second research posters workshop on November 7 (online poster workshop).
  • Presentation Help Sessions will be offered for students who would like assistance with presenting. Poster presentation help session – November 6; oral presentation help session – November 9. All disciplines and all research presentation purposes are welcome (conference, class, 3MT, etc.). You must bring a draft of the presentation to practice!

Program/Opportunity Applications
  • (new) Arcadia Abroad provides research abroad opportunities. They will soon post 2024 research abroad listings. In the meantime, students (and faculty/staff) can register for a STEM Summer Research Overview session or University of Oxford session (link coming soon).
  • (new) REU highlight: The Food Science Summer Scholars is open to students in any major, not just Food Science! Develop your skills in food science research, education, and outreach.
  • Dept. of Energy Summer 2024 Undergraduate Internships applications are being accepted through January 9, 2024. Access information and register for a panel workshop to learn more about these science and technology opportunities (DOE SULI information).
  • The OnePack Empowered Program is designed to support and empower neurodivergent students and those with executive functioning challenges. Its mission is to identify the unique needs of these students and support their academic and career goals. Applications for the program are due November 10.
Opportunities to Present
  • (new) The NC State Make-A-Thon will be held January 26-28. Register by January 18. This opportunity includes “collaborating in cross-disciplinary teams to research, design, and prototype solutions to a sustainability challenge.”
  • The Richard Macksey National Undergraduate Humanities Research Symposium will take place at Johns Hopkins University March 21-23. Abstract submissions are due by December 8.
  • The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR 2024) will occur in April 2024 and will be hosted by California State University – Long Beach. Applications are due December 8; start considering your submission! Please inform the OUR if you are applying.
