The Science House Homework Haven, a free after-school tutoring program (K-6th grade), is in need of tutors. The Haven meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:00 PM at 1951 Booker Dr. The program is now in its 12th year supporting kids in the Washington Terrace Apartment Community. We strive to provide a 1:1 student:tutor ratio, which we have found is important for student academic success. Our primary goal is to have each Haven student working at grade level or better in reading and math. We are looking for tutors to help out at the Haven at least one afternoon session each week. In addition, we are working to teach the kids chess, so we can surely use some tutors who have a passion for the game. If you join us, you will find it challenging, but personally rewarding. Please don’t hesitate to stop by and see us at 1951 Booker Dr., Raleigh, if you would like to pay us a visit before participating as a tutor. Please contact Jay Levine if you have questions (jflevine@ncsu.edu). We can provide transportation back and forth from the NC State campus.
