Bonaire is one of the most accessible places on our planet to study aquatic life on a fringing reef. This Caribbean island’s arid setting, away from large rivers and out the hurricane track, the establishment of the Washington Slagbaai National Park, and coral restoration programs has helped preserve its reef and associated environments under a rapidly changing climate and human development. This study abroad program is based on studying the marine and coastal settings of Bonaire above and below the water. The program will introduce students to the natural and human history of the island; and will develop their scientific diving skills. Read this article on last year’s trip.
