MEAS Undergraduate Updates
We welcome students and faculty/staff to meet with (or email) OUR staff and student ambassadors with research-related questions or concerns!
Interested in learning more about the OUR – check out the article about the office on the NCSU homepage!

OUR Events and Reminders
  • The NC State Undergraduate Research and Creativity Spring Symposium will be held April 25-26 in Talley. Submissions are due APRIL 2 by 11:59pm (that’s this upcoming Sunday!). Students from all disciplines should consider submitting (see page for submission types). Your work can be finished, in progress, or a piece of a bigger project. The OUR will offer help sessions as you prepare (April 4, and April 11). You can find information, past abstract books (for examples), and updates on the Symposium website.
  • Congratulations and well done(!) to Benjamin Black, Hannah Dickerson, Thusna Gardiyehewa, Gabrielle Schuh, and Katie Traynelis for an excellent job on your presentations and representing NC State at the ACC Meeting of the Minds conference March 24-26 at VA Tech!
  • Spring Symposium is not only an opportunity for students to present, it is also an opportunity to see what undergraduate researchers are doing, to see with whom they’re working, and to experience a conference in a familiar atmosphere. We will start each day with light breakfast offerings and a chance to network with campus partners, employers, and other student, faculty, and staff guests prior to presentation sessions. Campus partners and employers will have tables in the ballroom throughout each day. Join us!
  • Summer OUR RA Program applications will be open April 17-21. Prepare your application before this time; the submission site will not be open before or after this week. Applications are submitted on epack. Review information about the program and requirements on the OUR RA site. Students must have a confirmed mentor to apply.
  • Are you presenting research at a conference, in class, or at another event and would like some assistance? The OUR has two more presentation-related help sessions coming up on April 5 and April 18 (as part of the Seminar series; register here). You can also meet with one of our Research Ambassadors.
  • The OUR provides travel awards (accepted throughout the year) to help mitigate costs of going to a conference or discipline-related event if you are accepted to present. Make sure to read requirements and submit all necessary information.
Other Events and Reminders

  • The 16th Annual Graduate Student Research Symposium will be held April 5 at the McKimmon Center with posters from 1:30-4:00. Undergraduates are encouraged to attend and talk with graduate researchers, be immersed in research topics, and perhaps obtain ideas for creating posters and presenting their own work.
  • UNC Wilmington is hosting a marine science summer program (open to UNC System students – that includes NC State). Find information here and apply by April 11.
  • The Environmental Health Research Experience is accepting applications through May 3 for their Summer program. Find information here and apply here.
  • Looking for additional summer programs? Find more information here (note: deadlines range from February – April; deadlines may have passed for opportunities).
  • Combine research and art with the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education’s solarpunk scholarship. Review information here and submit by April 30.
  • Summer research abroad in Prague? Review information about Masaryk University’s programs and apply by April 15. Review NC State’s research abroad offerings for now or future summers (and/or other terms).
  • If you are a student in need of a work/graduate school reference, please remember that the OUR should not be written as your supervisor. Put down your mentor, mentor’s phone, and mentor’s email as the reference contact.
Happy researching!
