NC State
MEAS Undergraduate Updates
We welcome students and faculty/staff to meet with (or email) OUR staff and student ambassadors with research-related questions or concerns!

OUR Events and Reminders
  • Summer (and Fall) OUR Awards are open. Make sure to review all requirements on the submission page, required templates, and save one of the help session dates (required). Summer OUR Award submissions will be due March 22. In order to have your submission read, you must attend a help session; all help sessions have now been completed (email Dr. Showalter with any concerns).
  • The NC State Undergraduate Research and Creativity Spring Symposium will be held April 25-26 in Talley. Submissions are due April 2. Students from all disciplines should consider submitting (see page for submission types). Your work can be finished, in progress, or a piece of a bigger project. The OUR will offer help sessions as you prepare (March 7, April 4, and April 11). You can find information, past abstract books (for examples), and updates on the Symposium website.
  • Spring Symposium is not only an opportunity for students to present, it is also an opportunity to see what undergraduate researchers are doing, to see with whom they’re working, and to experience a conference in a familiar atmosphere. We will start each day with light breakfast offerings and a chance to network with campus partners, employers, and other student, faculty, and staff guests prior to presentation sessions. Campus partners and employers will have tables in the ballroom throughout each day. Join us!
  • The OUR is seeking research ambassadors. Please note that we are looking for students who will be able to commit to Summer 2023 (at minimum, June & July) and Academic Year 2023-2024 (a separate round will be held for AY23-24 only). Review the research ambassador page for more information and to apply (due by March 20).
  • Are you presenting research at a conference, in class, or at another event and would like some assistance? The OUR has two more presentation-related help sessions coming up on April 5 and April 18 (as part of the Seminar series; please register below). You can also meet with one of our Research Ambassadors.
  • Review descriptions and register for a/some Spring 23 OUR seminars! In addition to the help sessions, we have three remaining research-related topics for those meeting requirements or those curious about a variety of research topics – all are welcome!
  • The OUR provides travel awards (accepted throughout the year) to help mitigate costs of going to a conference or discipline-related event if you are accepted to present. Make sure to read requirements and submit all necessary information.
Other Events and Reminders

  • The Black Research Symposium will be held March 23-25. Find more information here. Students can register to present research or participate in discussion sessions here through March 20.
  • The University of Missouri invites applications through March 31 for the Interpersonal Relationships Summer Research Program. Find more information here.
  • The 16th Annual Graduate Student Research Symposium will be held April 5 at the McKimmon Center with posters from 1:30-4:00. Undergraduates are encouraged to attend and talk with graduate researchers, be immersed in research topics, and perhaps obtain ideas for creating posters and presenting their own work.
  • If you are a student in need of a work/graduate school reference, please remember that the OUR should not be written as your supervisor. Put down your mentor, mentor’s phone, and mentor’s email as the reference contact.
Happy researching!
