NC State
MEAS Undergraduate Updates
Below are some announcements, reminders, and deadlines that the OUR would like to share.
We welcome students and faculty/staff to meet with (or email) OUR staff and student ambassadors with research-related questions or concerns!

OUR Events and Reminders
  • Do you have a research mentor that you would like to recognize for their guidance, support, advice, etc.? If you’re a volunteer, research assistant, funding awardee, or any other type of undergraduate mentee working with a faculty/staff mentor, submit a nomination for the Michael Dickey Outstanding Research Mentor Award by March 6.
  • Summer (and Fall) OUR Awards will open February 13. Make sure to review all requirements on the submission page, required templates, and save one of the help session dates (required for submission). Summer OUR Award submissions will be due March 22.
  • The 2023 Envisioning Research contest is open for submissions. Faculty, staff, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students are encouraged to submit photographs, images, graphics, or videos that represent your research (completed or in progress). For more information, specifics for submissions, and to view past winners, visit the Envisioning Research page.
  • The NC State Undergraduate Research and Creativity Spring Symposium will be held April 25-26 in Talley. The submission space will open in late February/early March. Students from all disciplines should consider submitting (see page for submission types). Your work can be finished, in progress, or a piece of a bigger project. The OUR will offer help sessions as you prepare. You can find information, past abstract books (for examples), and updates on the Symposium website.
  • Review descriptions and register for a/some Spring 23 OUR seminars! We have myriad sessions on research-related topics for those meeting requirements or those curious about a variety of research topics – all are welcome!
  • The OUR provides travel awards (accepted throughout the year) to help mitigate costs of going to a conference or discipline-related event if you are accepted to present. Make sure to read requirements and submit all necessary information.
Other Events and Reminders

  • The Stanford Research Conference will be held April 7-8 at Stanford University. Submissions are due by February 13.
  • If you have an idea for a project that could improve sustainability, consider applying for an NC State Sustainability Fund grant. Read more about the opportunity and apply by March 5 on the grant page.
  • As reference/application season approaches, students who have held RA positions or are funded via the OUR should write down their mentors as the reference/employer contact, not the OUR.
