MEAS Undergraduate Updates

NC State Black Male Initiative is hosting a workshop series next week that will be led by a performance education group called Black Men Moving (BMM).

Black Men Moving (BMM) is an initiative that explores identity, agency, and social responsibility through movement with self-identified black boys and men. BMM works to create safe spaces for black boys and men to explore self-empowerment and creative citizenship.  The initiative amplifies the cultural and creative empowerment of participants through dance, dialogue, and public events.

The workshops will be held on November 15th and 16th and are free and open to the community.

  • November 15th at 7:00pm: (Re)Defining Black Masculinity (African American Cultural Center room 356, Witherspoon Student Center)

In this first workshop, participants will be given the opportunity to define and redefine what black masculinity means through discussion and interactive activities.

  • November 16th at 7:00pm: Overcoming Trials With Community Support (Holmes Hall 104/106)

In this workshop, participants will be led through deep mind-body connection activities to pinpoint varying life obstacles and how they can use their internal and external support systems to succeed.
