North Carolina is the home of diverse marine and freshwater fish species, which is documented in the NCMNS Fish Collection. The intern will bring historical fish specimens to their full state of utility, through proper curation of the specimens and all associated data. This collection contains invaluable data, and it is imperative that we process these data and make them globally available. With the intern’s help, we can fully process this collection in a timely manner and thus have a more comprehensive picture of the historical biodiversity of our coastline. The intern will also learn about modern genetic techniques for studying fish biodiversity, utilizing the rich collection of genetic resources in the museum’s Fish Collection.
