I am seeking a graduate student to do a geologic mapping project in the Piedmont of North Carolina starting in August 2022. The project involves conducting geologic mapping of the Hyco Shear Zone, a major terrane boundary formed during the Alleghanian orogeny. The project will involve structural geology, petrography, and geochronology. This project is supported by the EDMAP program of the USGS. This would be a great project for anyone interested in a career with a geological survey, doing environmental work, or in mineral exploration.
Requirements: Student must have an undergraduate degree in geology and have taken structural geology, mineralogy, petrology, and field camp (may be completed summer 2022).
Student will be based in Raleigh, North Carolina as part of the Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences Department at NC State University.
Interested students should contact me by email (mcurry2@ncsu.edu) and be prepared to submit an application ASAP.
