DEQ has an open opportunity for a Geologist/Hydrogeologist (Mapping & Modeling).

 

This position is responsible for independently mapping and the use of geographic information systems (GIS) to model ground slope stability for the team of landslide geologists.  This position would assist the other landslide mappers and will provide technical guidance and direction concerning landslides (as well as debris flows, debris slides, rock fall, and rock slides) and identify deposits from landslide activities.   This position requires the ability to walk through rough and uneven terrain and work in inclement weather.  Experience is required in geologic mapping and some knowledge in landslide types and deposits in the field, collecting data, and the use geographic information systems (GIS) technology.  Job duties will include emergency response to landslides.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Data collection and Analysis – This position reviews and quality checks data collected and the analysis of field observations.  This includes digital data collection and the use of digital mapping techniques.
  • Program Management — Coordinate information on new areas to be mapped.  This includes updating observations and providing site specific information on existing landslide hazards seen from LIDAR.  This position coordinates the conversion of digitally collected debris deposits into mapping products.  This position also assists leadership in planning and completing work assignments.
  • Report Writing — Assist in the preparation and peer review of all documents produced by the landslide team.  Prepare clear, concise and organized documents, maps and reports addressing moderately complex geologic concepts and assist other staff in reviewing landslide mapping activities.
