Campus as a Classroom (CAC) is a new paid internship program ($12/hour) for undergraduate students coordinated by the University Sustainability Office. Apply no later than midnight on July 28, 2021. Note that you will be asked to upload a resume as part of this application form. If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by email.
CAC uses an internship model that pairs students with campus operations-focused projects. Projects are supervised by a university employee, who uses his or her expertise in the project topic to facilitate student learning and project success. In addition to working on a project, students also attend monthly cohort meetings and workshop modules that expand students’ knowledge of holistic sustainability principles, applied problem solving, project management and professional development. These knowledge and skills will help prepare students for careers in all fields after graduation.
Each CAC project’s goals are dependent on the needs of participating departments. However, the overarching goals of CAC projects include the following:
– Improve campus operations by utilizing the university’s resources
– Advance NC State’s sustainability efforts
– Enable students to apply their current knowledge while enhancing their content expertise
through data analysis, research, critical thinking or applied problem solving
– Equip students with the knowledge and skills to prosper in their professional careers
– Provide symbiotic opportunities for students and participating departments
Students will be expected to work 6 hours a week over the course of the academic year (fall and spring semesters). This includes time spent working on CAC projects, monthly cohort meeting attendance and supplementary workshop modules. These positions are paid, and academic credit is possible if an internship is required as part of a student’s academic program.
