Picture a Scientist Film Screening
NC State University will host virtual screenings of the documentary Picture a Scientist. The film chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights. After registration, you will be able to view the screening between October 17th and October 20th. Please note you will need to register by October 14th to receive a screening link.
A STEMinist Experience
In an effort to bring attention to themes raised in the documentary film Picture a Scientist, NC State will host A STEMinist Experience on October 20th. The event will feature a plenary address by Pamela McCauley, associate dean for academic programs in the Wilson College of Textiles, followed by a series of concurrent sessions for undergraduate and graduate students, women of color, alumna, staff and faculty. Additionally, there will be a session on admission to NC State for undergraduate and graduate study.
The schedule for these sessions is below:
6:00 -7:00 PM Plenary Session with Keynote Speaker
7:10-8:15 PM Concurrent sessions for 1) first year students 2) graduate students 3) women of color 4) faculty/staff 5) alumna 6) mental wellness and self-care for women in the sciences
8:15-8:30 PM NC State Admissions Information Session for undergraduate and graduate students
