NC State has prohibited all university-sanctioned travel to China due to the rapidly evolving situation in China with the novel Coronavirus. Per NC State’s Regulation on student international travel (REG 02.55.01), given the CDC and Department of State elevated advisories, all NC State study abroad programs and activities in China have been suspended until further notice. Furthermore, per the memo issued to the campus community on January 28, “NC State University will not authorize, award credit or funds, nor reimburse travel expenses for any activities involving travel to or in the affected areas,” which is all of China at this point. We are very disappointed knowing how this will impact our students and are working with students and program directors to redirect for spring and summer 2020.
Special Note:
We work with many degree-seeking Chinese national students who enroll in classes while at home in China over the summer and transfer those credits back upon return. This is considered Study Abroad, and as such, is also prohibited at this time. Per the University memo, we may not authorize nor award credit for, even retroactively, study abroad in China until the advisory levels are reduced and the travel restriction is lifted.
Given the rapidly evolving nature of this outbreak, it may be advisable to encourage this student population to consider one of our many other summer study abroad programs or pursue summer school on-campus. Summer 2020 Study Abroad program applications are being accepted on a rolling basis through February 15.
