New for Spring 2020 is USC 260: Research as a Profession! This 2 credit course will provide GEP credit in interdisciplinary perspectives and global knowledge.
- 1st half of semester: Broad overview of research as a global enterprise, conceptualize independent research project
- Spring Break: Travel to Prague to conduct research and explore the significance of research in the Czech Republic
- 2nd half of semester: Analyze data, present project at the NC State Spring Research & Creativity Symposium
What will students gain?
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the distinct research/creativity processes among science/technology, social sciences, and arts.
- Describe the interrelatedness of research within science/technology, social sciences/humanities, and arts.
- Interpret relevant research governance within the sciences/technology, social sciences/humanities, and arts including the responsible conduct of research.
- Identify and examine distinguishing characteristics of technological or scientific developments in a society outside the United States.
- Describe research as an interconnected, interdisciplinary, and global process.
- Develop their own scientific research project
- Apply skills in data analysis to test hypotheses
- Compare and contrast research findings with the work of others
- Describe their research and findings in written and oral formats
Scholarships are available from the Study Abroad Office. Students must apply by Sept 15. All students enrolling un USC 260 will receive a $500 travel award.
