Documentary Information: In a partnership with the Climate Reality Project, Environment North Carolina will be hosting a film screening of Sonic Sea on Tuesday, March 19th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Riddick 325.
- The documentary highlights the effect of man-made noise pollution on the behavior patterns of aquatic mammals, like dolphins and whales. During the seismic testing phase of offshore oil and gas exploration, sonic airguns are fired in the water to detect pockets of oil beneath the ocean floor, which can cause dolphins and whales to beach themselves trying to escape this unknown threat.
- The film itself is about an hour long, but we are budgeting time for discussion and “calls-to-action” afterwards.
