Seacamp is hiring!

Seacamp is a non-profit organization offering a unique marine science/SCUBA residential camp for teenagers 10-17 and a marine science daycamp for youth 10-13 and and to visiting elementary, middle, secondary, college, and adult groups throughout the school year.  Established in 1966, it is located near the most extensive coral reef in the continental United States, in the middle of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
Seacamp offers courses in marine science, SCUBA diving, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, arts and crafts, photography, and camp newspaper.

Science Instructor Position Openings:

Course topics include marine biology, coral reef ecology, ichthyology, animal behavior, invertebrate biology, shark  biology, fisheries science, environmental science, marine aquaria, and marine research. Courses are  taught in local habitats which include mangroves, coral reefs, tide pools, and shallow marine systems.  Each course involves lab work, lecture, and field trips.  Instructors participate in all camp functions, including hospitality services, serve as cabin counselors, and assist in camper supervision.

Requirements:

Science Instructors must be at least 21 years of age with a current, valid driver’s license and a clean driving record to meet insurance requirements. Must have a B.S. or B.A. in Biology, Marine Science or related field. Must be comfortable in the water and have strong swimming skills. SCUBA certification is required.

Employment dates are March 31st-December 22nd; or a one-year position.

Comprehensive Experiential Training Program:

Training from professionals in the field include seminars, program observation, teaching field oriented marine education, program development, seamanship, boat operation skills, and leadership training. Upon successful completion of coursework, certification in American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer; and NAUI Skin Diving Instructor and NAUI Rescue Diver (if SCUBA certified).
